    Sleepy Beyond Imagining.

Nearly 10 PM.  I got here and got through the scary interview, my mind racing about what I would do if… but I did keep calm, and did not panic, and things worked out okay.  Good to not panic.  Then I had to discern if I should give all my money to the lady to pay for the darned thing – gosh $155 – cost of doing business.  Yup.

But it has been a crazy week.  Many ups, many downs, many all arounds.  Scary how things go in the world.  Airplanes being blown out of the sky – by some idiot who thinks he is fighting and winning somehow but stupid at it?  Good grief.  I guess whoever said, “The idiots have won.”, is not wandering far from the truth these days.

Sure makes you think about lucky stars and blessings to not have been in the wrong place at the wrong time…  “Is it all just controlled chaos? we ask… how could this be?

Our friends in that little country with such rich resources and the friendly people – hammered by these bad things happening.  I know that they must just be stunned.  Prayers to all of these people.

My eyes are falling out of my head at present.

Must get to bed so that I can get up in the morning… off to work I go!

Not keeping all my eggs in one basket!

  • There are times…

    There are times…

Sometimes I sign on to do things, with great exuberance, after which I say, “what was I thinking?”  Not always, mind you, but sometimes it just happens that way.  It is a human thing, I believe, to want to do certain things that are new and exciting, but then you get into it and you think, “I really don’t want to do this.  It is not what I thought it would be like (doing this).”  We are poor estimators of things like effort and how much time it takes to do new things.

Conceptually, we think that this takes this much time, the next part takes another amount of time, and so on.  Sometimes there is the unforeseen whatever that crops up and takes you down a rabbit hole where time really speeds up (or stands still, if you are waiting…) – or you get to where you have to do ten more things than you thought originally, just to get ready to do that one thing that you thought might take five minutes – instead it takes five days!  Argh!

Right now time zips by.  It just does not seem that there is enough of it around.  I think that there is some sort of accelerator that is making my time clock speed up.  Seriously.  Every year goes by really fast.  I have heard other people talk about this, but I don’t think that I am ever going to understand it.

Oh well, so it goes.  I suppose it is better than the alternatives – soak it up, right?

Guess I had better get out from in front of this damned computer!  It will suck your brain away if you let it!

our friend, our great gift, moves on…farewell to the Father of GIS

With great sadness, we learned today that Dr. Roger Tomlinson, our dear friend and amazing mentor, has moved on.  Knowing Roger has been a treasure and a gift from the heavens and humanity.  Spending time with him was so inspiring.  Much will change, but much will continue to go on because of his help and influence to so many people across the world.

Roger is known as the Father of GIS.  This may not mean much to those who do not know the power of the amazing technology that he envisioned and turned into reality.  His method of focus on business problems, and using GIS to solve these was true innovation – he is the best business analyst that we have ever met…  The IT people of today do not understand that the gap he will leave will be wide…

I am very sad that I will not be able to give him his annual little elephant… I will add it to his collection, and for whoever inherits this, they will have elephants from around the world…

Roger, we will always love you – you will live on in our hearts and minds forever…
