We love maps.  They tell a lot about people, in cultural geography and human habits – popular food consumption, being the topic of this one.

The Huffington Post at the above link shows the popularity by state of various cuisines “the most popular” – and as you look at those, think of the percentage of those 50 states’ popular cuisines that contain some sort of tomatoes within them.

Consider also, the current administration’s “war on Mexico and NAFTA” and his assertion that the imports should be taxed to a greater extent.  Consider his petulant pursuit of ridding the United States of “undocumented immigrants” and its impact on the state economies on whose GDP depends on many of these workers to bring the (pardon the pun) fruits to bear…

Enjoy barbecue?  Enjoy guacamole? Enjoy tomatoes in any form?  How about that marinara on your pasta?  How about that salsa?  Do vegans eat tomatoes?  You betcha!  Ketchup on your hot doggies or your burgers?  How about “them fries”?

Imagine that you may be paying 25% or more on those current day prices?  Think that this is outlandish?  Think again.

The lowly tomato could become something that is costly to buy – because its production may be limited if those folks who work to bring them to market vanish “poof” into jails as they await deportation…  The knock-on effects translate to more impact on your wallet and your “favorite foods” in our fifty-states.

Be careful what you ask for, purveyors of those cuisines into which tomatoes enter or serve as a basis to them therefore…

Consider the tomato…
