it’s happening again. groundhog day. we can’t really do much about it. stupid weather.

    Look at this weather forecast:

    IMG_7892Not pretty.  Again?  Really?

The mosquitoes are going to eat us alive.  We are going to have a big wet mess again if this really happens.  Here lately, it seems that we’ve ended up in an endless do-loop cycle of “unprecedented” weather events.

Not happy about this.  I was going to get to see my grand-baby this weekend, but now the likelihood of the roads being “underwater” between here and there is growing in a predictable way – but you know, they will never say positively one way or the other – they will interpret the data and make their predictions.

But just look at the facts, yourself.  Presently, the Brazos River continues to rise, as it still has not reached flood stage.  Evacuations are ongoing.  Today.  We are waiting on another report but in the meantime, the map here on the USGS WaterWatch (#WaterWatch) site has the latest info for you to visualize the WHERE of all of this wacked-out weather.

Here is what the forecasters from our NWS are saying as of the latest forecast before this writing:

    Area forecast discussion
    National Weather Service Houston/Galveston Texas
    1042 am CDT Wednesday Jun 1 2016

    Update…
atmosphere is very moist with precipitable water of 1.7 to 1.8″
this morning but this will be increasing throughout the afternoon
and Thursday. Troughing along the coast to just off of crp will
slowly lift north and help with storm development. Today expecting
scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms and have raised
probability of precipitation accordingly mainly over the central and eastern areas.
Rainfall rates of 2″ per hour already going over Polk/Trinity
counties this morning. Will raise a Flash Flood Watch across the
area through Friday afternoon but may need extending.

    Discussion…
southeastern Texas is readying itself for another few days of
precipitation brought on by periods of locally moderate to heavy
rainfall that will likely induce or aggravate regional flash and
river flooding. All of the synoptic ingredients are in place, from
the gradual spreading of the upper levels as jet level winds become
more diffulent just ahead of the southwestern-settling mid to upper
low to the Stout lower to mid level southeasterly 20-35 knot inflow
feeding inland convection with near 2 inch precipitable waters.
The devil is in the details as they say and this couldn’t be more
true of a idiom than for US over the next several days. Yes,
confidence is mounting that many across the region will experience
a round or three of impressive rainfall (rates) that will again
produce flooding and quite possibly various communities will be
dealing with wind damage from either localized wet downbursts or
weak tornadoes from passing strong thunderstorm clusters. As is
the case with all of these anticipated potential severe weather
events…the question of the exact timing and location of the most
intense weather will go unanswered until either right before its
passage or during the heat of battle itself. Although the vicinity
(unfortunately southwestern-positioned) upper low and subsequent
shortwave disturbances rotating around this main feature will
ultimately be the impetus to inclement weather, it will be the
mesoscale that determines the when and the where of the most
severe rainfall and wind. Or, in other words, it will be that
prior convection that drives future convective behavior and, if we
can better pinpoint this on a 6 hour time line, then we may be
able to more accurately convey a relatively higher confidence with
    a 12,or even 24, hour forecast.

The target days for the highest rainfall will be from as early as
today through as late as Saturday afternoon. This is the period in
which the upper low currently digging down over the lower U.S.
Southwest and the northern Mexico providences of Sonora and
Chihuahua will nestle itself over Texas, particularly over eastern
or south central state. With the highly moist ‘condition’ally
unstable air mass already in place over the region, this scenario
is the worse possible for US as it places eastern Texas under the
best upper exhaust pattern for series of disturbances (the ‘conditional’)
to generate lift and maintain an environment conducive to the
formation of continual clusters of thunderstorms to slowly travel
(train) over the area. Not expecting overall storm motion to be
all that fast within a forecast weakly steered lower layer. As of
now, the forecast calls for likely rain/storm chances commencing
today and persisting through the weekend. There will be periods of
either very light or no precipitation, especially if an mesoscale convective system travels
across the County Warning Area and creates subsidence in its wake. A model and
National center blend equates to an areawide 5 day quantitative precipitation forecast of between
4 to 5 inches, locally higher with amounts of greater than 10
inches certainly not out of the question. Of course, it will be
those 1 inch amounts over 15 minutes across more urbanized landscapes
that will be of the highest threat versus double digit rainfall
over a span of several days.

On a major side note…the city (iah) has not yet recorded a 90f
degree day this year. If this forecast pans out and overcast with
rainfall plagues the region through the weekend, then the city
would likely not meet 90f for the remainder of the week. This
would place 2016 in the top 5 if 90f was not met by Sunday (the
latest day was on June 15th, 1897). 31

  • what I like to do vs. what I do

what I like to do vs. what I do

Picture 14What I like to do?  That’s a good question.  It depends on the day.  Sometimes I can’t even answer that question.  It’s kind of like “what do you want to eat?” – to which I respond, “What do you have?”  or it’s close cousin “What are you going to eat?”  A question answer for a question…  Hmmmm – what’s going on there?

I need me some insight!  Yeah.

I recently decided to take the Myers-Briggs test again, just to check and see if I have changed.  Well.  Actually, I haven’t much.  It was of some comfort to be reminded of all of my blind-spots.  It reconfirms what some people tell me about myself, either frustratingly, or sometimes gently, but mostly in the former way, as I may have pushed them to the brink of whatever.  I guess that I am hard to be around sometimes, especially when I am not in my comfort zone, which can be a lot of the time.

What happens is that I think that everything should fit into Planet Me.  Anything else is illogical.  I have to ask God to help me with this and give over to the higher power as I traverse into the land of the overwhelmed.  When I was in deep grief after losing Rob, and yes,  he was lost, no matter what anyone has told me otherwise, on my planet, he isn’t here – I can’t find him, so he is lost… As I was saying, when I was in deep grief, I had to give over to God.  It wasn’t possible for me to feel in control of anything – it was like something else had taken over me and was driving from deep inside me.  Hard as hell to ride those waves, but I finally managed to stay on the surfboard and not fall into the sea.  I kept looking for some dry land and eventually, I did land on a beach somewhere – still on my planet.  I have learned to live on “survivor island”,  as it is impossible to return to the old place where I was.  Forever changed, but not gotten — that old place…   Yep, it didn’t get me then — and I pray for peace all the time that this will be settled for at least a while (in geological time).

As with most of us humans, I believe that I am programmed to worry about “the end” of life on earth – my life, everyone else’s “who are dear to me” ‘s lives – not so much that I have any control – but that I pray for not painful transitions – All the horseshit with suffering is not a good deal for anyone.  Enough of that.  FIDO.  If you want to know the acronym meaning of FIDO, search the inter-google.  You’ll find it eventually.

So much of life is living through one’s days, not knowing when days will no longer be, and trying to enjoy life, love others, feel somewhat satisfied and successful at what you do,  interact with those around you and your world, in a positive way – and not be fearful of being alone…  Once I am by myself in quiet solitude, it isn’t so bad.

It helps to have the dog here with me.  She is somebody.  Until my special somebody comes home again and we are together, she is here and remains here until such time as she isn’t – but that hopefully is on down the road some.

I do worry about this enough that it enters my dreams, and so I know that the worry baseline contains this worrisome stuff.  I think it is because of my intuition and its strength.  God only knows why He gave me this.  It must serve some purpose.  Here, Dearie,  have an extra helping of intuition, thank you very much…  Hmmmm…  Does that come with salsa?

My f***ing intuition drives me nuts sometimes and I want it to go away or just tame down some…  I pray over and over that I can be more wrong that right and just “normal” on the intuitive front.  Using intuition for good – that’s okay.

What is interesting today is being up at 4:30 AM, or thereabouts – and being here at 6:40 AM, having been awake for two hours already!  It will make the day seem earlier, and then the evening will, too…  It’s fall-ish outside (finally) and yet it will get warm again before it doesn’t for awhile.  Typical weather for these here parts, plus a little bit warmer – thanks to climate change…

    IMG_4713

I plan to take this road trip tomorrow which will be an experience I have not had in a good while – road trip by myself.  My vehicle and I will traverse the roads of the hill country and try to avoid accidents and incidents with texting drivers who think it is their entitlement to text while driving, regardless of how it makes them drive.  ugh.

Straight shot.  All the way to the midpoint (well maybe more than the mid-point!)  have lunch, go again to the destination.

Birds are chirping, sun is rising – once again, it’s morning…

  • waiting for the second that something will change or maybe not.

waiting for the second that something will change or maybe not.

Blade Runner.  Great movie.  Classic.  We saw it again recently.  A reminder of the perceptions of life that we hold onto as we cruise through it.  Maybe not in a futuristic vehicle, but maybe it is – if you time slice automobiles from the time you were born, to now – hey, by the time you are my age, they do look futuristic.  They still don’t fly through the air, except in bad circumstances

That’s another story. Chaotic.  Strange.  Wake me up when this movie is over

But sometimes things happen and you can’t wake up from it, and you can’t get away from it.  It just is how it is.  I have experienced that.  More than once.  Yeah, life sucks sometimes.

Disease, divorce, death – the three “D’s” that you get told by counselors that say these are major deals in your life.  Of course your own death isn’t likely to affect you in a big way, just other people who are left behind.  And that is yet another story.  Been there, done that.  No amount of experience prepares you.

Things get put on your radar that weren’t there just a minute or two before.  Stuff like that.  That is when we don’t want change to happen.  It is a “please, just let me BE” kind of appeal.  I’m not ready for the great up yonder yet.  We don’t get to decide that, Silly.  Haven’t you figured that out yet?  So, nobody wants to face that, but yet we face it every day.  We just send it under the gray matter.  Fear of “it” in any representation.

    the clown

Clowns.  Monsters.  Deep space.  Any abyss – beings and places you cannot know simply because you cannot see or touch what is within.  Let’s take clowns.  Underneath all of that make up, wigs, baggy clothes, big shoes and those big red noses is something you cannot understand.  Oh, and yeah.  There’s the teeth part.  Big teeth.  “The clowns are waiting, I cannot sleep.”

Thanks Stephen King.  Master of bringing you your worst nightmares in print.  You are compelled to NOT put the book down until you get through to the end.

I think that if a dark future is defined for you, and you are told this, it makes you realize that you are not in control here.  You are definitely NOT in control.  Sometimes you go down the river in Egypt – de Nile.  Or your mind chops it up into itty-bitty pieces.  At some point, the removal of the perceived control makes you angry.  It makes you lose it.  Yeah.  Lose control.  Oh yeah… never actually had it, did you?  So, get pissed off, get over it and call me in the morning.

Living in the past lately, for some strange reason I call it studying the past.  Suddenly, the 1960’s are fascinating.  Maybe clinging is a better word.  Maybe not.

Photo - 010Day to day, for comfort, we delude ourselves into thinking that everything is fine.  It’s a self-protection, this calm of the moment.  A womb.  We sit in it and watch the world go by.  Then the tap on the shoulder.

Imagine riding along on I-10 one minute, and crunched between vehicles the next.  Split second.  Bastante.

Don’t forget.  Joy happens, too.  Learning that you will be a parent, then waiting the appointed time before that actually happens.

The split second you see the new little person, made of 50% you, emerging into the world – now that’s joy!  Let’s not think of other possibilities.  Be in the moment.  It’s important.  Let’s just think that things will be fine and the miracle of life will be right in front of our very eyes.

Experience teaches us lessons of dubiousness and as we have more of those experiences, we get more dubious.  It’s as simple as that.

Photo - 007I have been accused of being “negative”.  Maybe when I am speaking with people who are close to me, it is the fact that I feel that I can speak freely.  Well, maybe I can’t as much as I thought.  Live and learn.  There was innocence before the fall.

My life experience unfolds every day.   Everyone on this planet experiences this as long as they are still breathing.

Revisiting what I did once, thinking back about it, I felt like I was wandering in the forest, to be honest.  I look at these old photos and wonder what happened to these girls who were friends back in 7th grade.

Mostly, I was afraid of my mother.  I was always trying to escape her grip of control.  She didn’t want me to wear shoes with no socks.  She did not want me to wear make-up.  She did not want me to shave my legs or arm pits.  For God’s sake, I was looking like a baby gorilla!  What a dork – wearing socks and clunky shoes (oh  yeah, she didn’t want me to wear cool shoes – only those that were “supportive”).  No make up, no eye liner, no lipstick – Frosted Malt or Sugar and Ice – the two popular ones at the time so you could look like “Twiggy”.  Right.  See me in that dress.  I absolutely did NOT look like Twiggy.  I had curly hair, when styles were straight.  My mom kept cutting my hair, when I wanted it long.  What did we agree on?  Not much.

We finally had it out when I was in seventh grade.  Yeah.  She took a slap at me and I caught her hand in mid-air.  I said, “Don’t do that to me ever again.”  Line in the sand.  That was the day she realized that I was bigger and stronger than she was.  And she didn’t physically do that again.  She used her mind instead… oh yeah, and her voice.  Boy could she scream and yell.

    Photo_035

She was kind of a “Dr. Jekyl – Mrs. Hyde”.  But eventually, we knew the relationship boundaries and we got as okay as we could — and she did rise to help and support at grim times, when she was most needed.  She could behave like a normal human being if she put her mind to it.  A real normal one.  That was what perplexed everyone about her.  But underneath, she was a normal person, trying to stay that way.  It was probably clowns that drove her into her spells.

    So I digress.

Childhood.  Adolescence.  Adulthood.  I guess all I wanted was some credibility.  Well, here I am.

I’ve been so trying not to repeat history, that it hurts.  Maybe I have gone a bit too far, but then, you are never sure.

We have those moments in our lives that we will look back on, embarrassed, but knowing that it was the best that we could do at the time with what capabilities we had and being what people we were, we can take comfort.  We were children.   It’s okay.   Photo - 004We can’t go back and change this.  Only in the movies, but then it gets complicated when this happens, as we have seen.

But we had fun and we did crazy stuff.  We snuck out and rode around, and met boys at the movies, and made out in the dark.  We probably did a lot of things that millions of other kids did around the world.  That’s why I love that movie, “The Boat that Rocked”  AKA “Pirate Radio”.   It captured how we were – on the brink of something revolutionary.  It was great!  The British Rock invasion… The Soul Train… Girl groups – yeah, Lezley Gore – It’s My Party and I will Cry if I Want!  Love it!

One thing, though – we can’t go back.  Would we want to go back?  No, not really.  Some of those days weren’t so much fun.  But what I think is that we should appreciate every day.  I know it’s hard for people facing tough times.

We can’t magic away the tough times.  But if you are just needing to change your attitude, then you really should think about it.

I am.  Every day.  Every day.
