Bowie

iPhoneBackup 514David Bowie has left to become stardust.

I used to hear him even in music by others, his distinctive influence, his voice, his just right there quality that could hook us and hold us most of the time putting us into another dimension with the musical artwork that he produced throughout his lifetime.

I won’t stop thinking about it – that he is gone – and seemingly so suddenly.  He left just three days after “our birthday”, as you see, we had the same birthday, he being just a few years older than I.

He took us places, leaping ahead of others, helping us transition from our crazy youth into some sort of still feeling with it adulthood, those of us that did not want to leave the edge.  He was the king of edge, the supreme being of morphing into whatever he felt should be represented at the time, to make you THINK and stretch your mind into yielding a response.  He was truly talented, and for some reason I felt that he might last well into his elder years…  Like Mick is.  Like Keith.  Keith, who seems to have the most enduring genes and represent how a person can continue to thrive despite incredible abuse, don’t you know?

Bowie was likely more sensitive and of course, on all accounts, was one of the most congenial people ever to walk the planet.  We will truly miss him, those of us who felt some connection with him.  I certainly will, each year, on our birthday.  I will remember him, and play his music, and think back about how he took me places that I likely would never have gone.

He will live on in his music, his art, and his theatre, and the legendary kindness and giving nature that is in the memories of those whose lives he touched.

Thank you, Bowie, for being our friend and inspiration.  May you have all the peace and love that you can encounter wherever you are – and we know you will not be bored…
