It has been raining again – this year, it made the IronMan pretty rough for people, I imagine – lightning bolts or heat and humidity?  Not sure which is better.

We did not have our usual deal of going out and cheering on the folks – I’m not a lightning bolt sort of girl… But, I was with them in spirit, for sure – hoping that they weren’t hurt and that they were able to achieve their goals.

I saw the tail end of a “doco” that was talking about this place in Venezuela, South America that was picked-up on satellite with these unusually bright flashes – turns out it is intense storms caused by lots of unusual electrical activity – investigations generated an array of possible causes, including the possibility that gasses that come from bio-degradation of organic matter in Lake Maracaibo – in the region of the storm activity contain a kind of a cauldron of “bio-stew” – something that scientists have discussed at times as “primordial goo” – well, there ya go.  It appears to be a laboratory – Mother Nature as a mad scientist of sorts.

Separate of that, it has been the warmest April on record.  Those non-believers out there who insist that climate science is a bunch of bunk really are going to be struggling, as no matter what – things are getting warmer and the storms more frequent – with sound effects and vivid lightning coming with, at odd times of the year, even.  After all, looking back on the holiday cards of your grandparents did you see tornadic thunderstorms on the backdrop behind the quaint houses and churches in those old scenes?  I think not.  Santa didn’t wear Hawaiian shirts, either.  But he might in the future…

life as it goes on, and sometimes it unravels…

Here lately, so much has been happening that it is difficult for us to know the extent to which it impacts us – we just have a lot of swirling thoughts and those that remind us of the past, of course, as life has a habit of digging up those and bringing them forward.

Our friends’ daughter was killed in an auto accident last week, and swiftly all the events of their lives were set out, on a different path.  Instantly, just like that.  It happens.  These are reminders that we are not in control here.  We only have glimpses that we call control, like my fingers on this keyboard.  Fleeting.

We hold onto our forward course, but sometimes the course changes – and we are disrupted onto a new course of moving forward, just in a different direction.  Similar events from my past are re-lived in understanding and empathizing with my friends.  We share the road of the common experience.  Our minds adjust, as much as they can – but they are changed minds.  Human experience is that way.

She was a beautiful girl, but had challenges throughout her life.  Where she seemed to flourish the most was at the time she had her babies but still she seemed challenged to attain a solid happy spot in her life.  We will miss her and it goes to remind us how people touch our lives, no matter how distant they are, you do get pulled into the relationships once you meet them, watch them grow up, and become young adults…

it has been a long while, and there is a lot going on!

Observing the culture, and everything that comes along with it…

    looming clouds
looming clouds, dark skies, rain brings floods and flowers…

I am entering into times when I am trying to maintain my stride, despite the shockers that come along once in awhile.  Aside from that, good things are coming up on the horizon, such as becoming a grandparent, which is kind of crazy in my mind (am I old enough to do this, yet?).  I guess I must be.

We have spent time with a number of people lately, staying in our home.  We have been out speaking with people, doing business, trying to keep a positive attitude despite it being one of “those times” whereby some people are beginning to freak out.  Yup.  Remember the ’80’s?  I think that this is happening right now.  Hope it isn’t a long slide…

World politics is the culprit this time.  It would be nice if everyone would just get along.  Stupid wish.  They won’t.  It’s not their nature to do that.

Friends from Canada up in Calgary are faced with it – it really is in their faces, as being somewhat isolated, and an “oil town”, when oil prices fall, so do they – and they fall hard when it happens… Seriously, from 100 to zero in sixty seconds… well maybe 90 seconds… but, where scarcity of people has been in place for awhile, you now will have a glut of people looking for jobs, or having to get the hell out of the country because no work, no visa, bye-bye.

Same with the U.S.  We heard of one instance yesterday where the people had seven days to get out and go home.  They have a house to sell.  Geeze, where is the reality when they make these regulations?  Talk about the stupidity of bureaucrats and lawmakers…  What are they thinking?  Partisan politics and prejudices – not really thinking that these people like living here and might be contributing to the economy in some other way…

Probably this piece should be in my “today’s rant” section…  Ahem.

Back to what is going on lately…

I had an article accepted for publication this week.  This helps me focus on writing a bit more…  Need to get that book back in process…

Press on.  Get the day underway.  One foot in front of the other!
